Arsenal prepare shock move to land 27-year-old Newcastle defender amid Spurs interest

Fabian Schar

Reports indicate two league giants are keen on signing Newcastle United star Fabian Schar.

According to wide spread media reports, North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are keen on making moves to land Newcastle defender Fabian Schar in the coming transfer window.

The Daily Mirror, as cited by Metro, is claiming that both of the Premier League giants are keeping close tabs on the 27-year-old defender ahead of a possible attempt move to sign the United man at the end of the campaign.

As per the same report, the performance of Schar for his Premier league club this term has caught the focus of both of the London sides as they start to prepare for the summer window.

Schar, 27, has netted three goals and created one assist in 18 League games for premier League returnees Newcastle so far this term.

The same story reports that both Tottenham and Arsenal had shown serious interest in luring Schar to England before he signed for Newcastle United from Spanish La Liga club Deportivo De La Coruna last summer transfer window.

The Gunners are very much likely to be in the market for a couple of new players this summer window as their Spanish tactician Unai Emery get set for his second campaign in charge at The Emirates Stadium.

The former Sevilla coach has been handed the task of steering the Emirates giants back into the top four of the premier League this season, with the gunners having missed out on UEFA Champions League football for the last two consecutive seasons.

Unai Emery desperately wants to strengthen his backline options this summer window, with Arsenal conceding the most goals from the top seven clubs in the Premier League this season.

Tottenham are also keen to sign some good defenders, with experienced centre-half Toby Alderweireld strongly connected with a transfer away this summer.

The united defender played all 90 minutes in his side’s incredible 3-2 comeback victory against Merseyside club Everton on Saturday.
